Flashback Friday With Akshay
Hey guys, I’m pretty much a rookie when it comes to blogging, but I have been an adamant fan of Edm for over 3 years now, right around the time this new trio called Swedish House Mafia came out with their first song called “One.” For my first Flashback Friday I want to share with you some classic yet relatively unknown tracks from the very polarizing figure named Deadmau5 (pronounced deadmouse). I give Deadmau5 the credit of getting me more into the Edm scene and pushing me away from hip/hop and rap with his track “Ghosts N’ Stuff.” The three tracks I’ll be sharing with you is “October,” “FML, and ” “You Need a Ladder.”
If you have never heard Deadmau5’s music, it is simple yet beautiful beats with a harmonic melody that will have you tapping your feat without you even knowing. Words cannot describe the number 4 DJ in the world’s (according to the well known/scandalous “DJ Mag”) music, so you’ll just have to listen to and see for yourself.
October (Unreleased)-
This song has not been officially released by Deadmau5, but is a song that I can listen to in any month of the year, not just October. This song does a great job of portraying Deadmau5’s artistic abilities in different kinds of genres within in the EDM scene. This is a progressive song which has a beautiful buildup and an even more beautiful yet mellow drop.
You Need a Ladder (Zelda Theme) -
Everyone has heard the song called “Sofi Needs A Ladder,” well this is in fact the first version of that song and in my opinion the better version. Even though there are no vocals, this song undeniably will have you jumping up and down. Like “October,” this song has not been officially released by Deadmau5 but is just as good as any of his music released on his studio albums. I also personally love how he incorporates the Zelda theme song in this.
FML:
I wanted to show you one of Deadmau5’s songs that actually appeared in one of his studio albums, and is a little bit different in style from the progressive tracks “You Need a Ladder” and “October”. “FML” is a great song if you are into hard hitting drums and synths. The first buildup leads to a decent first drop, but it is the second and third drops which will have the people on your dance floor going bananas and screaming “oh-oh, oh-oh-oh!”
In this article, I decided to pick three songs that not have any vocals which some people may not find as appealing, but I wanted to show you less “mainstream bangers” and for you to delve deeper into the roots of one of the best producers in the game. Some dj’s which I will post about in future articles will have vocals in every song, but Deadmau5’s real speciality is telling a story through harmonic beats. Some of these dj’s that will be featured in upcoming “Flashback Friday's” will include Nero, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, Boys Noize, and many others. Next week’s article will be about a band who are no longer together named Pendulum: they are no longer together because two members decided to start a side project which turned into a raging success named KNIFE PARTY, so we will be exploring their origins.
Disclaimer: It is highly recommended to listen to these songs at an extremely high volume for maximum amount of pleasure.
